
HEAT Dancers
I don’t like to play favorites … but this project was my favorite.
When the Me Too movement scandals inevitably reached professional sports, many NBA and NFL teams’ reaction was to cut the cheerleader and dancer teams (insert eye roll).
Fortunately, the HEAT asked us to help answer the question: “How can we create a better environment for the Dancers knowing what we know now?”
Challenge Accepted. Step 1: Listen.
We interviewed current and past HEAT dancers, centering their experience and letting them speak confidentially. Then, we shared the often-harsh feedback to the executives. The result? Total and complete accountability.
Now we knew better. It was time to do better.

The changes we made affected everything from wardrobe and
what kind of events the Dancers should be attending, to interview questions
and
content that
showcased their academics,
athleticism, and positioned them
as role models for young girls.
